Bays Cycle Challenge

  • 2021 Date to be Advised
  • 78km

2021 - It Comes with Great Disappointment that Christchurch City Council has withdrawn the approved Traffic Management Plan and not issued an Event Permit for this event, as they couldn't resolve a solution for this event and a Triathlon to use the same road on the same day. Solutions were put forward and a decision was made, which if published would be laughable.  We are looking to a revised date later in the year.  All registered riders will be fully refunds there entry fees.   This was beyond out control, when we bought it to the attention of the CCC and the Triathlon that both events were on the same day to our detriment.

The Famous Grouse Bays Cycle Challenge brings back racing around the Bays in Lyttleton Harbour. On Sunday the 31st January, the start will be at McCormacks Bay Reserve and the peleton will be lead out for the first 1.5km and then the lead vehicle will pull away and the racing will begin.

This year will see the race go over Evans Pass, through Lyttleton, Governors Bay, Charteris Bay, Diamond Harbour to Purau and then return to Teddington, where riders will go over Gebbies Pass through to Tai Tapu and then Finish outside the Famous Grouse Hotel in Lincoln.

This 78km race will see some awesome racing and some great challenging hills throughout the race, taking in all the Bays of Lyttleton.

With King and Queen of the Pass at Evans Pass will make it interesting from the start.
